The Dawn Redwood, a native of Manchuria China, is a fascinating specimen among the Redwoods. Once believed to be extinct, it was rediscovered in the 1940s and is a living fossil from a time when vast forests of these trees existed. The Dawn Redwood is a true Redwood, with foliage more similar to our native Redwood. Unlike our native Redwood, they are deciduous, with light green sprays that turn yellow, then bronze, and fall off in the fall, a characteristic only shared by the Larches.

This offering is a group of five trees, each between 5-8 years old and 22" tall. They are outdoor deciduous bonsai trees, grown and trained meticulously.

They are potted in a 17" black oval container as shown. A suitable humidity/drip tray is recommended and can be added at a small additional cost.

During late summer (August), the trees may be shipped with mature, turning, and transitioning foliage as the tree prepares for dormancy. They may also be shipped with no foliage during autumn and winter. The tree will emerge from dormancy and re-grow foliage in early Spring.
