Also known as the Maidenhair tree. The sole representative of one of the most ancient genera, the Gingko may be considered a true living fossil, as its ancestors flourished in many parts of the world during the Jurassic Period. Fossil evidence dates it back 200 million years ago. The Gingko Biloba is the hottest trend in both health foods and bonsai. It is regarded in eastern cultures as the "Fountain of Youth plant". The herbs from this mystical plant are thought to improve health and memory. Easily distingushable by the characheristic two-lobed, fan shaped deciduous leaves which turn deep yellow in autumn. Fruits arranged in clusters are golden yelllow when ripe. Three curved braided trees form the trunk of the tree. Keep outdoors. 3 tree braided trunk - each 6 years old. 20"x16"x23". Really the most exciting of the redwoods is the Dawn Redwood, a native of Manchuria China. Thought to be extinct, but rediscovered in the 1940's. The Dawn Redwood is a true redwood. Native to the Fujan province of China, this tree has small white flowers that can bloom at any time. The foliage is dark green and small in size.
